As Richard Dawkins points out in his “The God Delusion,” child abuse and religion have a long history together. Dawkins argues, the labeling of young children often takes the form of child abuse. Labeling a child by the religion of their parents is something quite disgusting indeed.
As a child, I spent countless hours in the local Mosque and in religious instruction classes. The classes were merely learning to read the Koran in Arabic. The instructors were men who had no admirable qualities about them. They were failures in life, or simply not able to achieve any material wealth, and thus could make a reasonable living for themselves by the donations of the mosque. They weren’t very intelligent, and their devout belief in Islam showed such. Though, they were nothing beyond a waste of time. That is a rather fortunate situation as at least in the case of the Catholic faith, quite a few of such instructors were also disgusting pedophiles.
Aside from such blatant abuse, religion often takes the form of mental abuse. I often come upon young teenagers who have been brainwashed to the point that they will never break out their religious faith. They wasted years of their life already on this religious nonsense. They will waste more time and money throughout their life, all for a worthless cause. Their support of religion and god often becomes opposition to evolution and science. Dawkins’ famous closing of the Blind Watchmaker sums this point up quite beautifully. “We are going to die, and that makes us the lucky ones. Most people are never going to die because they are never going to be born. The potential people who could have been here in my place but who will in fact never see the light of day outnumber the sand grains of Sahara. Certainly those unborn ghosts include greater poets than Keats, scientists greater than Newton. We know this because the set of possible people allowed by our DNA so massively outnumbers the set of actual people. In the teeth of these stupefying odds it is you and I, in our ordinariness, that are here.” People often ask, why bother with debating religious people, and that is what I often quote as a reply. If I did not debate the theists, and especially those who deny the fact of evolution, I would be allowing those people to die without ever truly living.
In a recent case of religion being the cause behind of child abuse, a Ohio teacher actually branded a child with an image of the cross. The teacher used a device to literally burn the cross on the child’s arm. That is not the end of the teachers offenses, as Mr. Freshwater was actually teaching creationism in a public school. Creationism is not only idiotic, but teaching it in a state funded school is unconstitutional. Such cases of clear child abuse are quite disturbing, and should be disturbing to every American who upholds the Constitution and the fundemental seperation of Church and State. If parents want their children to have such a third rate instruction, they should send them to a Church, not a modern institution of learning. And if people want to teach such nonsense, they should not do it on a salary that is paid by the state.
The UN was created for very specific reasons, but mainly dialogue. The concept was, if people can get together and promote dialogue between countries, it would be extremely helpful to avoid wars and conflicts. This would thus help towards economic prosperity throughout the world. Founded in response to nations such as Nazi Germany, whose propaganda and gestapo tactics are infamous throughout the world. The major failure of the League of Nations was the lack of effective prevention, they would rather cut talks short, and appease rather than actually get the issue solved. Now, we have the case where dialogue is being limited and restricted within the buildings of the UN in order to…(drum roll)…not offend Muslims and their stone age bullshit.
Islam and the Abraham religions are known for their censorship, and their ability to shutdown conversation by playing the faith card, or “sensitivity” card. Islam in modern times has become the religion where nobody dares to criticize in fear of personal harm. When a person actually does make a proper and thorough criticism of Islam, they have had money placed on their head. Someone like Salman Rushdie or Ayan Hirsi Ali can’t walk around in public without a security detail. Islam was in the news for its harsh protests of the Dutch cartoonists who criticized the “religion of peace,” and what was the prompt reply from the ROP? Riots in the streets, bounties placed on those cartoonists head, and an ironic sign held in protest…”KILL THOSE WHO CALL ISLAM VIOLENT.” They won the victory of censorship there as well. No major media show, newspaper or magazine would dare to actually publish the cartoons in question. In a time where, pictures and videos replace actual articles and journalism, we actually saw pictures being boycotted across the board.
Now, we have the case where the Muslims actually WON a battle on the floors of the UN to restrict only “religious scholars should be allowed to discuss matters of faith” for faith is, indeed apparently “very complex, very sensitive and very intense.” So now, on the board of Human Rights Council of the UN, where gross violations have been made by Islamic countries, you simply cannot criticize Islam unless you are a “religious scholar.” In Iran you have the government executing homosexuals in public for being…homosexuals. In Saudi Arabia, the government actually perform beheading, torture, honor killings and all sorts of human rights violations in town squares for all to see. To quote the article directly:
“On Monday Egypt, Pakistan and Iran angrily protested attempts by a humanist group to link Islam to human rights abuses such as female genital mutilation and so-called honour killing of women. The interventions sparked a heated debate which threatened to sour the mood of the meeting. The council’s resolutions carry no legal weight but are intended to throw a spotlight on governments that abuse their citizens.
“This council is not prepared to discuss religious matters in depth, consequently we should not do it,” Costea ruled after an emergency break to calm the situation.”
The Islamic Sharia which allows and promotes the suppression and subjugation of half of their population, and the Muslims who still to this day, follow through on such orders are responsible for the pointless deaths and torture of thousands if not millions of women yearly. Of course such numbers could never be reported as the governments in those countries remain as third rate, and corrupt as the imams, the Islamic religious authorities.
In that statement, Mr. Costea actually is saying, religious faith is “complicated,” thus it is better to leave it alone. Yes, a plagiarized Book written by men under the instruction of uneducated merchants and generals, to control other men…with the writing standard fit for the 7th century, where it should have stayed…literature for 7th century illiterate, maggot-minded fools. Just simply not fit for the intellectual standards of the 21st century. There is nothing simpler than this nonsense, which a child can easily pick apart (and do)…yet it receives a general label of a taboo subject. It is time we end this special treatment of religious faith, and especially Islam…for if we deny ourselves the right to free and intellectual discourse, we will deny ourselves the advancements of modernity, and the joys of liberty.
I normally wouldn’t actually write about the death of another human, largely because I don’t respect many enough to do so. But George Carlin is in a league of his own. His stand up comedy is utter brilliance, his routine could make anyone with a sense of humor laugh. His books, albums, and HBO specials were really something unique and incredibly good. Anyone who discusses religion as bluntly as Carlin did, while still remaining on air is worthy of praise. In honor of Mr. Carlin, I’ll post a few great quotes and videos (out of a massive library of thousands).
