Apparently the game of tag isn’t just limited to little children, but in fact atheist bloggers! Adrian Hayter aka the Atheist Blogger just tagged me and now apparently it is my duty (and pleasure) to answer the following questions.
My conversion from Islam to Atheism took months, and so it is really impossible to pin down to one date. I know for certain that it was sometime late 2006 and early 2007, but I couldn’t give much more of an answer to that.
I was an agnostic for that period of time between being a Muslim to becoming an Atheist, so this would also probably be sometime late 2006, early 2007. Though, I didn’t remain an Agnostic for very long as once I read The God Delusion, that definitely pushed me over to the Atheistic side of the fence.
During the supposed holy month of Ramadan in 2006, I was a Muslim who prayed five times a day. A few days after the Eid Al-Fitr which marks the end of Ramadan, I remember thinking while praying that this praying stuff is pointless. I felt nothing while praying, and perhaps that was my Eureka moment.
I personally live a pretty comfortable life, so I really was never an angry person. I have much more than I need, and so why be angry at god? That isn’t the case with religion however, as I know for certain that part of the reason I became an atheist was the Muslim worlds treatment of women. That disgusted me and still does to this day, and thus I am most certainly an “anti-theist.”
No, mainly because I never did believe in ghosts or any sort of other supernatural thing beside god.
This is also a no. The reason is because if I am right and death is like a dreamless sleep where one is simply not conscious of anything, then it won’t make any difference. The concept of heaven put forth in Islam and Christianity isn’t very exciting either…eternal praise? Please, I’d rather go to hell and meet interesting people.
I’ll get around to tagging some people sooner or later, but figured I’d answer the questions now.
