War sucks. If you can't handle it, don't start it.
This would be a different story if the Palestinian government gave a flying shit about its citizens…unfortunately, it's not because they don't.
this is deeply disturbing, it really sickens me …………..it pisses me off…….
The Palestinian government and Hamas are obviously lunatics. I don't think anyone will realistically challenge that. They are indeed not innocent. However, while all of that is true, it simply does not justify what Israel is doing, and the kind of warfare and terrorism they have taken part in is despicable.
So what's the solution, to condemn your own citizens to death raining from the skies in the interest of morality and society or to protect your families and livelihood by striking back? Either way, Israel has to make an extremely tough decision, which is not being helped by the willingness of people to point out what Israel is doing wrong. There is no right decision, and it needs to be understood that a country must do what it can to protect itself and its citizens.
It seems that no matter what, Israel is going to be made out to be nasty, bloodsucking scoundrels while Palestine will continue to escape oversight.
The point was to recognize what a ridiculous situation this is. Israel has choices, but no matter what it chooses it's never the right thing to do. Everyone from CNN to the average internet crusader is ready to vilify anything that the Israelis accomplish.
Warfare with standards is an contradiction. Even if both sides were equipped similarly and only the soldiers were fighting in the war, both sides would be willing to do anything to gain an advantage, even if that means breaking a few international laws. In a situation like this, where one side is clearly doing anything possible to push the other out, there can be no hope for standards or laws, because they're not going to be followed. It is within the nature of humans to break a rule when it's deemed necessary (stealing bread to feed oneself, killing a violent assailant, etc.), and Palestine seems pretty damn determined to get the Israelis out. (As a side note, I heard reports that buildings in residential areas such as mosques and schools were found to have been stockpiling weapons. Do these "laws of war" still apply?)
Economic warfare takes time and a very strong economy. The Israelis are not doing too well on either of those fronts; and the last time I checked, Cuba and Libya had not been previously bombing the United States mainland.
The Israelis have tried over and over again to make peace, to restore boundaries, to appease the Palestinians. It has become abundantly clear that the Palestinians will not stop until the last Jew has vacated the land that the Palestinian people want. This has ceased to be a simple feud, even war; it's a matter of survival, one side or the other.
I disagree with the first statement about the vilification of Israel. I think CNN and all other forms of massed media have been extremely euphemistic about the situation. Just like they usually are with most things (except when it concerns America, in that case, they are quite over the top with their depiction of news). That was the point of my "Israel and the Media" blog.

If you really believe that last paragraph there, I suppose we will never see eye to eye on this conflict. That is a fundamental difference between us I suppose, and I am not going to attempt at converting you to my way of thinking, I would rather just attempt to unite and organize those who think similarly.

I keep dropping in and visiting your blog from time to time (usually to take away some important thought or idea) but this is the first time I am responding (and you could say contributing).
I have to say that I agree with Mike on this one. Israel is faced with very few choices and all of them are bad. I can see that you consider Israel's response "excessive". Could you enunciate your position by stating what would be a "proportional response" and how that would be beneficial to Israel?
Distasteful as the fact maybe, the truth is that wars are NEVER fought or won with proportional response. Victory demands overwhelmingly disproportionate response. Obviously this will entail a horrible loss of life and property. But like Mike said at the beginning, "War sucks. If you can't handle it, don't start it. ".

Israel has numerous flaws which should neither be concealed or excused. But the facts remain that Israel vacated Gaza in 2006 and if it has been under occupation it is Hamas occupation. What does Hamas do with territory under its control? It fres rockets into Israel. Hence, what is it likely to do if it had free run in the West Bank? Ditto. What should Israel be expected to do in the face of this?

this is regarding the atrocities done by people from your country on their fellow countrymen who were moslem. 2000 moslems were savagely killed with swords. pregnant moslem women were raped and cut up. children were burned alive after being locked in a house. the men in the video tape above have confessed what they did, what were the orders given to them and how they were eventually set free.

Check the las vote at the UN. In that past it was all they coul do to get 22 votes agaist Israel with 47 abstaning, this time they got 82 with a small number of abstention. The is a new High Sheriff in the land, the reason Israel's unitlateral (one side pace) with drawal. In the US Army we used call this of a retorgrade movement "cut and run" (or translate for you: to cut our losses and run like hell base to the fire base. Real Hero's your killing Women and Children.
Please under stand that History is for your learning (and not for mine – Lived it), the present will resolve it self as with Hamas and Israel (Israel cut and run), the future is open for discusion. The future with be decided at the (1) election box in each and every country in the Middle East, (2) by the people that are elected to office and (3) by their political sensibilities. Most politition are quite happen ingage us (you or I) in conflict to serve the own purposed (Hell why not, it you and I that going to dye, and most certainly not them ). Death is a final state! Does that mean the the only approach, because an election is nearing and we have to appear stong that you attack and kill 82% civilian casulties (Women, Children & old Men)? I dont think so. Maybe if your losses for the period wer 3,000, maybe even 1,300, but not 13 killed.__Im soory, as some with three (3) experince in Direct Combat with enemy I know how to Kill. NO. I DO NOT justify, condone or excuse the atrocities that were committed upon 2000 Indian Muslims. This was a despicable act and there is no excuse for it. All you have done is resorted to shallow sarcasm and baseless insinuation that I advocate killing of muslims – just for sport. That is nonsense!
TrueBlue, just in case you don't understand what I am saying, let me repeat it. It is NEVER a good idea to kill unarmed and defenseless people. But war does not offer easy or nice options. You keep saying 13 Israelis as thought the intention of Hamas was to cause "limited damage". Hamas would gladly have killed 13 thousand Israelis if they had the capacity. So it is not "ethics" but "limited capacity" that prevented them from causing more harm.
By contrast, Israel has the weaponry to kill hundreds of thousands of Palestinians if they were thinking of genocide. (I am not saying they should. I am only saying that they have the capacity). The reason Israel has ended up killing a thousand palestinians is because Hamas operates from civilian enclaves and hitting Hamas will entail civilian loss-of-life. I would argue that Hamas shows lack of ethics when it knowingly puts palestinian civilians in danger.
i don't have a problem if israel kills 1300 or 130000 hamas militants. i have a problem when they kill 400 children. if israel has the weaponry to kill hundreds of thousands of ppl then it's a shame they don't have the power, guts and military tech to save 400 children.
if there is a hostage situation here in the US we would never even think of blowing up the hostages along with the terrorist….even if we wanted to make it a quick and clean job. don't try to justify nonsense.
why was a UN building, hospital, school and so many houses destroyed? why is aid not being allowed inside right now? why was there a very heavy siege on gaza for long before the attacks? in the past 8 yrs of the mid-east crisis 30 israelis have died and 5000 palestinians. for those 30 people why is the life of 1.4 million people being destroyed? gaza was a concentration camp before this attack and now it's a nightmare.

i don't under how some lousy ppl can get so much time to blog like crazy and then go around commenting on every blog that they can find to rant and propagate hate speech. i mean srsly…do these ppl have a full time day job or not? current economy might be a good time to focus on that…lol
